For implant training, ADI uses a prosthodontically driven approach. This means planning begins with the intended final restoration, rather than the implant alone. Cone beam CT imaging and digital planning are used to support diagnosis, case assessment, and treatment planning.

Meet the Course Director
ADI is led by Dr Yohan Thomas, a Specialist Prosthodontist and the institute’s founding course director.
Dr Thomas completed his Bachelor of Dental Surgery, Graduate Diploma in Clinical Dentistry, and Doctor of Clinical Dentistry through the University of Adelaide. He has worked in specialist private practice in Adelaide and rural South Australia for more than 16 years.
He also has a long background in dental education. Dr Thomas has taught and guided students at the Adelaide Dental School for more than a decade and has been a mentor and tutor with the James Cook University Graduate Diploma in Implantology program. He has also lectured and taught nationally and internationally.
His teaching philosophy is centred on steady practice, continued learning, and close mentorship. Rather than limiting education to theory, his focus is on helping dentists understand how to plan, perform, and review clinical procedures in a structured way.
Day-to-day support for course enquiries and registration is provided by course coordinator Sally Lumbar, whose background spans more than three decades in the dental industry across the United Kingdom and Australia.
